The New Renault 5 concept is a result of a research driven design process, that was largly influenced by social studies and car production cost analysis. The brief was based upon identifying end user needs, and anticipated a solution, that would provide an affordable, yet desirable car, that could offer enough versatility and customisability to cope with ever changing lifestyles, activities, and individualism of the generation Y.
Designing affordability
30 per cent of the capital investment in an automotive industry goes into the paint shop*. The new R5 only has clear coated body in white, simplifyng the production.
The design is a compromise between expensive complex moulding of single parts and complicated and a costly assembly of multiple parts. The total number of parts is still reduced by using single part moulded plastic mask and rear doors, interior panels and dashboard.
