The Nut: Solar-powered speakers

The solar charging speaker design was based on inspirations from Philips’s design philosophy.

The future global economy is likely to consume ever more energy with the rising energy demand of social development. Solar charging uses solar energy to supply electricity. The solar energy is the cleanest and most abundant renewable energy source available.

PHILIPS Design Quote:
At Philips Design, we believe that good design is about creating products and solutions that satisfy people’s needs, empower them and make them happier. All of this while respecting the environment in which we live.
Motion Inspiration
When considering the way of charging, I came up the idea that let the speaker contain a open and close motion.

The inspiration came from the Ladybug. Ladybug’s wings are hidden under the shell when rest. Before flying, the ladybug pops the shell and outspreads the wings.
