Metal I Projects

This is a project using tin plate steel. The objective is to use techniques learned (ex. using the finger break, the hydraulic press, spot welding, etc) to design a creative form. I wanted to experiment with the hydraulic press, so I decided to make a cube with concave/convex sides. I used the hydraulic press and the jeweler's saw for the sides. Then I used the vice and a 3/32" steel rod to make the tin tubings, which were inserted on the sides of  the jeweler's saw cuts.
This is an experimentation with aluminum sheets. I found the incorporation of copper rod and aluminum very unique, so I found a way to connect them with copper and alunimum tubings (in the center).
This is another aluminum study, this time with cruves. The challenge was to connect the two curved aluminum pieces, and I used the copper rod and copper tubings to complete the stucture (tubings are around the exterior of the structure.
Finally, this is a final project using the aluminum sheet. The objective is to create a cube in any abstract way. I used the copper rod and tubing idea from my previous studies to complete the structure. This time, instead of using copper tubing, I used brass tubing to make the cube more colorful. The obstacle in the project, however, was stabilizing the rod and tubing joints. The rod kept slipping out of the tubings, so my solution was to pinch the joints with pliers.
