Emily Brown's profile

Black Excellence

In Black America, Lafonquiqui is trying to overcome her circumstances of growing up in a single parent home, being the daughter of a struggling, partying mother and being the sister of a reputable gang member, all the while trying to find the answers to the problems that plague her community and the black community at large. In the midst of the unspeakable violence and escalating murder rate that engulfs the Cedarwood neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, Illinois, she wants to make monumental change for the betterment of African Americans. She knows it’s a daunting task, so just trying will be an uphill battle itself.
