Three Women, One Dress

As an introductory module to Apparel design, we were taught basics of pattern making, draping and stitching. I designed two dresses, the first of which is a green shift dress, loosely based on the surface texture of a leaf. The other is made completely out of gateway paper and paper fusings.
The fabric(cotton satin) has been dyed in an irregular fashion to give it an uneven and distressed look. The all over pin tucks break the monotony further.Cotton satin has a muted sheen to it that gives it a rich look.
An initial sketch
Hundreds of such mesh like structures were laser cut from paper fusings and fused together to form most of the surface in the dress below.
The bodice is made from folded gateway paper and paper fusings form the rest of the dress.
