Wheelchair Assistive Device

After spending 24 hours in a wheelchair to simulate how people with lower extremity disabilities function day to day, I produced this project to find a way to better support the user's lumbar and thoracic spine.  Similar to a child's car seat, my concept consists of a semi rigid and padded chair that can simply be placed on top of the wheelchair's existing sling type seat.  This new chair would have a contoured back support to improve the user's spine posture and textured leg area for better blood flow.  Intended for aftermarket, off the shelf purchasing, this chair would be able to fit any industry standard-sized wheelchair.
