Those who have climbed Mount Kilimanjaro know that the porters are a must have. Without their impressive hard work and strength we would not be able to live this incredible experience. But the truth is the porters are destroying their bodies for a ridicules amount of money in order to feed themselves and their families.

The minimum legal age is 18 years old. The maximum weight they should carry is 25kg. But, like pretty much everywhere in Africa, rules are always broken. So you end up seeing a 16 years old boy desperate for work, struggling to carry a 35kg bag on his skinny neck.

And if that isn’t enough, the porters will arrive at every campsite long before you and they will have already erected your tent on your arrival. Also, in the evening they will boil water for tea and for you to wash your self and then, they will make you dinner.
