I chose the book The Angel Children by Charlotte M Higgins. This book was written in 1854. I chose the first of seven stories – Hepsa and Genevieve. It’s about a young, wealthy girl [Genevieve] that befriends a younger, poor girl [Hepsa]. She teaches her to read and teaches her about God, The Bible and heaven. In doing so, the poor girl’s family is also changed for the better. The girls are later separated by a family relocation.
Genevieve gets sick and eventually dies. She is brought to the gates of heaven and is in line behind people who have done great works for the world in God’s name. They have built colleges, hospitals and have lived in the mission fields for years. Genevieve becomes anxious as her turn approaches. The angel tells her that her works have already been counted.
The art piece that I chose to do depicts when the angel takes her hand and guides her to the gate and reassures her as she takes her to Hepsa’s place in the Garden.
