Groji Monster Toy

MFA Design Work

GROJI
The objective of this project was to design a small, mobile item that includes moveable parts. I had to take marketing feasability into account throughout the process, paying close attention to manufacturability as well as material choices.

Groji the Wheelie Monster was designed to have a molded silicone core that would be enclosed in a two part molded plastic shell. Small metal axles snap into the underside of the shell to hold the wheels in place, allowing them to move around a center axis in unison in a 360° rotation. The two heads are made in silicone as well and easily snap together in to place. The silicone material allows children to bend and move the heads as they please, enhancing their fine motor skills and adding another level of fun to this already playful design.
Sketching out all original character ideas to inspire the personality and overall design of this toy.
An exploded view shows a breakdown of all components. Inner shell, tail and both monster heads are molded in silicone. Main body is molded in plastic. Wheels are attached on small axles that allow them to rotate 360°.
