[Editorial] Nut, What Nut?

An illustration I did for the Editorial Painting course at the College for Creative Studies. The project is based on Natalie Angier's article "Nut? What Nut? The Squirrel Outwits to Survive" published in the New York Times. It's a fun painting illustrating the mischievous intelligence of the Eastern gray tree squirrel. The process work goes back-and-forth between digital and traditional medium. Special thanks to the exceptional Cathy Gendron for guidance.
The chosen pencil sketch among thumbnail explorations and study sketches.
After scanning in the chosen sketch, digital lines were drawn in Photoshop, and color exploration begins.
The final illustration. Acrylic on gesso. The digital line drawing was transferred to a gesso-ed illustration board, and painting commenced.
