息 | Breath
Breath is a installation to visualize wind. It is comprised of a matrix of 100 white poles. The upper end of white poles has a sensor and light by waving in the breeze. controlled by microcontroller each of them.

風の可視化のためのインスタレーション。揺れで光る白い円柱の原っぱ。円柱の先にはセンサーがあり揺れを検知して光を放つ。個々の単純な反応が、全体のふるまいとなって光の波となる。目に見えない風が可視化される。風は目に見えないが、天候や体感温度、木々の揺れなど景色、様々に影響を与え確かに存在している。この作品は、間接的に風をイメージしてもらうためのものである。
人は風との関わりの中で、現象としての風の向こうに想像を膨らませた。古代、邪な風は人に「風邪」を引かせ、稲作を助けたり台風被害をもたらす風を畏れ、神の息として、風を神の威、その往来の「兆し」とした。それは数々の神話で見られるように、息/生きとして生命そのものを指すものでもあった。大気の流れというだけではない風への感性があったようである。
不可視の風は作品を通じて表れ、人の感性を拡張する。現象の向こう側の不可視のエネルギーの兆しとして、レイヤーを重ねるように現実のイメージに厚みをもたせる。

目に見えないものへの感覚に集中することで、現象の先の豊かな想像力の世界を楽しむことができるかもしれない。この作品によって示される兆しは、風にきらめく稲穂、川辺の葦原、息に燃える炭火のような原初的なイメージから、木々のざわめき、はためく幟、揺らめく洗濯物と、日常のどこにでも潜んでいる。
Breath is a installation to visualize wind. It is comprised of a matrix of 100 white poles. The upper end of white poles has a sensor and light by waving in the breeze. controlled by micro-controller each of them. Individual simple reactions become the overall behavior and become the wave of the light. Invisible wind is visualized. This vision waving by wind is a reflection of our memories of original landscape, such as shining rice fields, wheat fields, waving Reed bed, burning charcoal fire.
Human in a relation with the wind, inflate the imagination in the other side of the wind as the phenomenon. In days of old, human used to take wind as a breath of spirits, and sign from spirits in awe of wind to help rice farming, and to bring typhoon damage.
The invisible wind appears through this work and expands your imagination.
By concentrating on the senses to what is invisible, it might be able to enjoy the rich imagination.
