Brief:
I was asked to design a typographic work that explores the subject of ‘Taboos’ (brief I’ve chosen). I had to investigate a wide interpretation of the word from historical, cultural and international perspectives and interpret it in a typographic manner.
Concept:
I chose to explore the subject of taboo’s and the different types of Taboos. My concept revolves around a cultural Taboo named entomopaghy which means eating insects. In some cultures it is tolerated and even normal whereas other find it repulsing. I created a recipe book called “Entomolicious” referring to delicious insect dishes.
I chose 8 recipes containing insects as a main ingredient and built the specific insects out of letters to reinforce the typography aspect of the project in a different way. I executed the recipe’s and photographed it to create an visually uncomfortable feel for the reader, yet describing the recipe’s as you would find in a traditional cook book.
The book is presented on a promotional plate made out of glass with an engraved typographic insect pattern on.
