LUNA Lamp
LUNA Lamp is a wooden lamp created through the process of continual refinement, exploration of the wooden material, and the added values of the design team. It's simple name is a reflection of the simple, yet elegant curve that illuminates the space that it is placed in.
The design team had three core values that were consistently applied to the design. Firstly the lamp should not require any instructions, the affordances and design should be easy to understand by any user. Secondly to achieve the elegant style that the team wanted the design should reduce any unnecessary parts. The only elements to remain should be the necessary parts. Finally our team wanted the design to convey an honest representation of materials, the materials should not be manipulated to appear to be like other materials, this required our team to seek out materials quite early in the design process.
One particular design that helps with the adjustment of the lamp, is the self-holding support. With friction the wooden body of the lamp is able to hold itself upright. However, the user is still able to pull the wooden body forward or push it backwards which provides flexibility in the angle of light that it can provide. This mechanism is a reflection of the design values that the team had when approaching this project.
