NATURE OBSERVATORY OF AMAZONIA :: competition ::

The program of this study was a nature
observatory in Amazon rainforest.
The approach was to produce a
self-sufficient station unit made of local
materials which can be assembled by
drones carriers, making a minimum impact
on the environment.

Design for the observatory of Amazon river came from  constructive system seen on local dwellings.
As it is shown on sketches of local dwellings (yanos),structures are round shaped with large open space in the center.
Families are scattered around the ring, each of which has its own cooking fire.
Outer wall is breached by doors leading to nearby streams, gardens, and other villages.
Roof is made up of two parts preventing leakage.

When you look for basic information about Amazon rainforest, most common facts that you end up with are number of animal species,  percentage of all forests in the world that are situated there, environmental threats, etc.
So the goal was to create a network of stations that are working on gathering knowledge about Amazon flora and fauna and improving them using contemporary technology like 3D printing, big data platforms, digital networks...
The network is constructed out of  the Base Point (main working station) that is constantly on the move, situated approximately on the same distance from each of the Instant Observatories (min 4), by the same principle as electrons move around nucleus. And, on top of that, there is a third part in this network - the flying drones that supply all the stations with gathered data, supplies and energy.
Every part of this system is self-sufficient, Base Point gathers energy from bio-digestion tubus, Instant Observatory gets energy from the difference in air humidity, Drone from integrated solar panels.
This system is in constant move, upgrading our knowledge of the rainforest and helping us understand its needs.
