Director: Gray Miller
The first Movie Cliche spot I directed for TVLand, back in 2009.
The brief was an 80's movie summer sunset look, spoofing "Footloose" and "All the Right Moves". The challenge was that we had to shoot in upstate New York during freezing weather complete with snow flurries.
On a sunny weekend before the shoot, we visited the location and shot sunflares and sunset skies, to use for sky replacement in post. I designed the rest of the shots so that if we could just get one sunset moment for one wide shot, we could fake the rest.
The first take was no good for sound because sleet was hitting the yellow gel frame and the actress' teeth were chattering, but ultimately we pulled it off, and Dairy Queen's only note was "This is the best one yet."
