[2013] Imagine Dragon's Inspired CD and Slip

Disclaimer

This is an old project, but a good example of my earliest explorations in design - blending a number of images together, and composing them so they seamlessly appear to be one.

Personally, I find that I could have spent more time blending around the feet area (super sloppy!) the grass and figures are over-sharpened, and the shadows and font kerning somewhat questionable. But regardless, it was one of my first experiences in presenting a 'professional' design solution, and I'm still incredibly proud of it.
Context

A high school assignment in 2013 required a CD cover for our video project, showing a number of fellow Year 12 students singing along to the song It's Time by Imagine Dragons. I decided to take a 'parody' approach and heavily imitate the style of the single's official cover, below.

Process

I worked with some of peers in class to imitate the poses of the original single, going for a comedic effect - choosing a block-colour background to simplify the blending process. We tried individual photos, in case none of the group photos turned out satisfactory, and then a group photo.

In Adobe Photoshop, I then used individual stock photos of the sky and the grass, and one of the group photos, to roughly compose the artwork to imitate the original Imagine Dragons single. Thankfully, black and white is much more forgiving.
Solution
The final artwork, derivative in background, posing, colour grading and fonts, was a fun play on the original CD artwork, and an appropriate accompaniment to the music video we had made to be shown at our high school graduation.
