In 2013 Detail. Design Studio were asked to pitch for the Dublin Theatre Festival. My concept for the identity system, and subsequent typographic and visual treatment, emanated from Michael Scott's original drawing for the Abbey Theatre's floor-plan that was produced in 1966.

 

The plan was based on two overlapping circles, the first circle being the front of house, where the public could meet before a show. The second of these circles was the back of house, where the factual aspects of the theatrical world could hide from public view. It was at the intersection of these points that brought the two worlds together however, the place where ordinary lives that entered through the front would be enhanced by the performance, carefully created in the back.
