The Goal and Our Role
The assignment rolled in to the Wilkinson Bros studio from Justin, one of the creative minds at ICON, steering us in a direction of 70s pinstriping and airbrush-through-lace techniques. It needed to look fast; a modern slant on an old-school style. There would also be a skeletal element to incorporate into the design, which was conceived by Oakland illustrator and musician, Mike Sutfin. It’s neat to create 2D graphics on a 3D surface while creatively working around vents and tabs.

This was a fun project for us; we love combining our trade and passion for motorcycles.

Motorcycle helmet illustration for the ICON Motosports Headtrip Alliance SSR.
The Goal
Create a retro-vibed illustration to be applied on a modern motorcycle helmet. Font treatments and its color palette riffed off the popular 60s psychedelic rock posters.
Our Role
ICON Motosports provided a thorough creative brief letting us know the direction they wanted to go. We sketched tight pencil roughs for their review/approval, then built the vector art based on their supplied 2-D helmet templates. We sent them our digital files and they took it from there, using their product-design wizardry to bring the final 3-D application to life. This project spawned the drag-bike “ICONMOTO” T-shirt with the same colorful swooshes as a backdrop.
