Nail Hog Packaging

I approached this project with the intention of making something fun and engaging for the target audience, that is very different from anything on the market today. I did a lot of home renovations this summer and that inspired me to do a packaging for nails.
I wanted to make a look-a-like package. A hedgehog seemed like the perfect animal to package nails in. I went through a series of sketches and looked at a bunch of hedgehog pictures until I came up with my own design.
The issue now was how to package the hedge hog without it falling out or pricking the consumer. I settled on a wrap around piece with slits in the bottom for the legs and and a cut out so the consumer can see what they are buying. I bought various colours of nails and made 3 hedgehogs: 1 silver, 1 gold andone with natural hedgehog colours.
My target audience is people who are not handymen, who don’t use nails on a regular basis but just for hanging up picture frames and little things like that. I am very happy with the way my package turned out. It is fun, interactive, playful and very different from what is already out on the market. It is also reusable: just refill the nail slots!
