After discovering there were over 11,000 untested rape kits found in Detroit, my partner Rachel Manauis and I decided to start a conversation. We realized that there were a lot of people who had never heard of a rape kit. The purpose of the project was to break the taboos associated with this topic and to educate people on the facts.
Rachel and I ordered a rape kit online and examined the contents. We redesigned the kit with neon colors and bold type. The kit was also displayed with an infographic poster made from neon sticky dots on a medical cloth that was included in the kit. The bright colors are meant to be aggressive, and call attention to the topic of rape, and give people accurate information.
