BTEC HND Graphic Design Project (Year 1)
Brief
Print remains as the most popular zine format. The task was to design a special edition zine/book by using the research collected, development exercises and content studied in class.
Rationale
First I had to select a theme and I explored on various things from traditional art to rap music. I believe that cooking is an art and I too love to cook so, eventually I decided to select Sri Lankan cooking ingredients and spices as my theme. It was a challenge. I got inspirations from Cookery magazines and photographs on spices. Spices have extraordinary characteristics. I wanted that to be more emphasized and ultimately I ended up with photographs of colourful “Spicy” images. I arranged everything before it’s been photographed to highlight principles of design. I used multiple spreads on few occasions and laid out text and images in a simple manner.
