Footbridge over the Vltava river

School project at CTU, studio of Alena Šrámková, 2015

Footbridge is a way of connecting two shores of river Vltava, Holešovice and Karlín. It is wavy like a path as well as the river below. Regular rhythm of pillars and the mass of the bridge girder gives it weight and strength, rotation of pillars and plan view curve lightness and dynamics. Footbridge creates recreational spaces in the form of stairs in the parks it connects and by its shape it approaches the third park on the island Štvanica, enters into dialogue with it, creating some tension and then degress again. The body of the footbridge is made of concrete with stone pavement surface to preserve the character of the street. Railing consists of glass blocks, which passes light to the bridge during a day and from it at night, while it is illuminated from beneath a stone handrail.
