The goal of this project was to design the steering wheel of the INSA LYON fuel-efficient vehicle for the Shell Eco-marathon Europe (5th place in 2016).
This steering wheel has to be as light as possible but also comfortable and efficient for the pilot.
Two prototypes were designed but only one was 3D printed and used in the vehicle.
The first one is in two pieces so a LCD screen could be added. The second design finally weights less than 100 grams.
Nylon (bolts and screws), carbon (tubes) and titanium (screws) complete the lightweight assembly.
