Sociability in India
 Intel Corporation, 2007
Project Brief

Intel Corporation, renowned for its integrated approach to electronics, wanted to explore scenarios of sociability experienced by Indians. In these archetypal scenarios, they sought to identify challenges which could be facilitated through the mediation of technology.

Individual Contribution as Researcher

Process

Extensive online research was done on new kinds of interaction that were emerging in the country in 2007 and ones that were expected to grow for the next 10 years. I looked into the causes of these news forms of interaction, the frequency of their occurrence and the kinds of market scope they represented.

Wide ranging occasions and events like hanging out in shopping malls, children's extracurricular activities, women's get togethers, meetings of local self help groups, religious journeys, intercity travels as well as pub going, weddings and event attendance; were ethnographically documented to get an up, close and personal glimpse at the social lives of Indians in both urban and rural contexts.

In discussion with Sociologists, New Media Specialists and Brand Consultants, future sociability scenarios were conceptualized and market size was estimated to indicate potential areas of involvement for Intel.
