Cameo and Caricature Project

Introduction

The goal of this project was to create a Cameo using the Adobe Draw application on the iPad, along with documenting the process along the way. Screen gabs were used to document the process, and the parent applications Adobe Illustrator was used to refine the project.

Materials
Hardware: Apple iPad, Mac computer
Software: Adobe Draw iPad Application, Adobe Illustrator
Platforms: Behance, Creative Cloud Drive

Creative Process

For the caricature assignment I wanted to portray my subject as the typical teenager she is; I included drawings of her iPhone and her gym bag, as she is constantly on the go, and wanted to represent her on the go life style. My subject's head is slightly over-sized, to pay homage to the style, and most of her features are fairly girly; her eyelashes, full lips, and her smirk. This was, to again emphasize the nature of her typical teenage self.
For the cameo assignment I chose to use the typical style of depicting myself through the negative space, as traditional Cameos done by Greek sculptors did. I stricktly used black and white to portray this.
Production methods and workflow
Step 1

To start, launch the Adobe Draw application on the iPad. Create a new project by pretting the plus icon located on the left side of the screen. An artboard will load, and you can press any artboard to begin. In the top left corner of the application there is a layer icon. Add a photo layer, which can be a photo already saved in your photo library or you can take a new one within the app. Fasde out the photo enough to see signifcant features, but also enough to see the art board. Trace over the photo as desired.
Step 2

When youve reached your desired effect, remove the photo layer and export your work to Adobe Illustrator on the Mac Computer. Here, you can refine your work by selecting control "A" on your keyboard and simplifying the lines.
Final Work
After reaching your desired polished look, resize the image in Adobe Photoshop. The will look similar to the following:
