Referencing the Greek Sea God Poseidon and John Milton’s Paradise Lost, Poseidon Lost illustrates the destruction of earth’s oceans due to humanity’s insatiable greed to buy and to consume more and more material things. More plastic has been produced in the last ten years than in the entire 20th century constituting 90% of the pollution floating on the ocean’s surfaces. As a result many water and land animals ingest this plastic, mistaking it as food and die as a result of not being able to digest it.
_I therefore created Poseidon’s trident, a symbol of his power over his domain, as being choked by plastic just as many sea creatures have been caught in plastic. If the Greek god were in existence today, his domain and power would be very much strangled by humanity’s polluting ways.
