Locomotive is a compilation of interviews with various Experimental and Illustrative designers regarding their passion for design, how they’ve come to become who they are, and their views regarding design. The book mostly features their self-initiated work.

The title of the publication is derived from the word “locomotive”, which refers to a self-propelled vehicle, or something that is capable of independent movement. It is chosen because like locomotives, designers should be inspired to create work for themselves – because they love design. Not because they’re pushed on by monetary or academic gains.

The colour scheme of Cyan, Magneta, Yellow, and Black was chosen because most coloured prints are created from those 4 inks. Many different colours on a print are created with those 4 ink colours to form a great image. Similarly, every good design, no matter how different each medium is (architecture, fashion, print, product, etc) is created from a great innate desire to execute good design.
