Verum Fictum

“Verum fictum” is a collection of artworks meant to raise awareness on the causes and consequences of mental disorders.
Increasingly more people are dealing with mental disorders. Our environment has great impact on the mental health. Globally, about 50% of the population is affected by stress, which may result in some forms of mental problems. The project is designed as the visual part of an awareness campaign.
The posters fit in the urban envoirment in many advertisement spots such as subway stations and bus stops.

"Nobody realizes that some people expend a tremendous amount of energy just to be normal."
Social anxiety disorder involves overwhelming worry about everyday social situations.The worry often centers on a fear of being judged by others, or behaving in a way that might cause embarrassment . Thus the patient feels constrained, chained up.
"You wake up in a different place, at a different time, you wake up a different person."
Dissociative identity disorder is thought to be an effect of severe trauma during early childhood, usually extreme, repetitive physical, sexual, or emotional abuse.The person who suffers from this disease develop multiple identities. The "alter-egos” have their own age, sex, or race.
"Often it isn't the initial trauma that creates seemingly insurmountable amount of pain, but the lack of support after."
Naturally, most people recover from initial symptoms after trauma. Those who continue to experience problems may be diagnosed with PTSD. People who have PTSD may feel stressed or frightened even when they are not in danger. A "phantom pain" may be also present.
"Schizophrenia cannot be understood without understanding despair."
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by abnormal social behavior and failure to understand reality. Common symptoms include false beliefs, unclear or confused thinking, hearing voices, reduced social engagement and emotional expression, lack of motivation.
"Though those with alzheimer's might forget us, we us a society must remember them."
Alzheimer's is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that usually starts slowly and gets worse over time. The most common early symptom is difficulty in remembering recent events. As the disease advances, symptoms can include problems with language, disorientation, mood swings, loss of motivation, not managing self care and behavioural issues.
