I spent last summer studying abroad in Turkey during the initial sense of conflict with Syria. My afternoons were often spent playing futbol with refugees who knew no Turkish or English but could score a goal with a cig hanging from the corner of his mouth. I painted these Syrian hilltops from across the border in homage of the experiences and people who changed my life.
