SIDEWAYS MARKETS
"Create a series of Bookmarks inspired by THE ART OF LOOKING SIDEWAYS"
'Sideways Markers' is a project where I used THE ART OF LOOKING SIDEWAYS as inspiration to create a series of different bookmarks for different chapters within the book. This was a really fun and challenging project as I wanted to ensure that each postcard was well designed and worked with the intended chapter. I created three postcards for three chapters - PERFECTION, COLOUR and SEEING.
I wanted to avoid falling into the cliché pitfalls when creating the design for these bookmarks. This was especially challenging when creating the PERFECTION bookmark, here I decided to focus on what made a 'perfect' page within the book. This gave me scope to play with grids and the idea of what perfect was - how many paragraphs, lines, words, typfaces ect. I then decided to flip this idea completely on its head to create a 'imperfect' bookmark which is on the reverse side of the bookmark. This side being completely illegible, and the opposite of the 'perfect' side.
