Everything is Bigger in Texas

State Poster, Texas, Digital Design Project
for Intro. to Digital Design I, Spring 2015

Project Description:
The student will create a unique and festive tourism poster for a US state -- this illustrative poster must include a notable piece of architecture from the state and two of the following: state bird, state tree, or state flower. Use typography to create a unified piece. Text must include the name of the state and the state motto. Feel free to stylize from a past decade, futuristic, etc. Think creatively!

Student will research their specific state. Based on research, sketches, and professor's guidance, student will create poster design. Completed project will be an 11"x17" poster. All must be completed in Adobe Illustrator as vector images.

For my project I chose the great state of Texas. Having lived in Texas for almost five years, it's a place that I know well, and care for deeply. Rather than make a piece of architecture the main focus of my poster, I decided to put a twist on the project. I would use the Lonestar brand and beer can as inspiration and place all the required elements of the project on the can itself. If you look closely you'll find the Alamo with the state flower, the Bluebonnet, flanking the historic building, as well as the state bird, the Northern Mockingbird, and state motto,"Friendship", on the badge.

This project was submitted for an Addy Award at the 2016 Greater Lehigh Valley AAF Addy Awards. "Everything is Bigger in Texas" was awarded a Silver Addy under the Out of Home & Ambient Media category.
