Rainbow Loom Ponies

After selling Rainbow Loom products for a few months at Michaels I decided to try them out for myself. After some experimentation and tutorial videos about different patterns, I learned to make more complex structures and keep pieces from unraveling while I made another. Soon I learned to add pieces to one another and make much more complex 2D shapes. Then I found a basic 2D pony pattern and decided that I wanted this pattern to stand on its own, so I invented a method of stitching two or more 2D shapes into 3D figures. After some practice and preliminary models, I've got the stitching method refined and the pattern for the pony memorized so I can make all kinds of free-standing ponies including manes and tails.

And as a fan of Friendship is Magic, I had to make characters from the show. I've secured each construct by looping the last stitching rubber band around the mane (for unicorns I secure it around the horn to give the horn extra lift) and I have covered some of these models in Mod Podge to prevent decay in the rubber bands.
To start we have Applejack: Mare pony with cylindrical mane and tail.
Here's Apple Bloom: Youth pony with petal-like mane and tail. The younger model has a smaller body than the mare model and shorter legs.
Here we have Big Mac: Stalion pony with short and scruffy mane and tail. Stalion models stand taller than the mares so I doubled the width on his legs for extra support. Stalions also have a longer body and a more pronounced muzzle, which allowed me to build the whole face instead of stitching on the mouth as I would with mare and youth models.
Last for the Apple Family set, here we have Granny Smith: Elder pony with her mane and tail worn in buns. The Elder model is about the same body size as the mare but has shorter legs.
The entire Apple family for a proper size comparison.
This Sweetie Belle model is based on one of my favorite MLPFIM fan videos:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_TMtgjQuZI
The pickaxe is an easy construct to make on its own and I just slipped it into the gap between her muzzle and the rest of her head.
This model is a fan character pony by the name of Button Mash. You can see that I haven't put the protective coating on this one yet and his foot has broken in the interim.
The sword came out more like a club but is still an easy construct to make on its own and I just slipped it into the gap between his muzzle and the rest of his head.
The Minecraft Creeper is an interesting construct because I had to make the whole apparatus come out as square as possible. I ended up making the front and back sides with feet and a wedge on top to bend inwards for the top plane. Then I made one-width sides and stitched up all four sides to meet at the top. You can see the singe rubber band on top that holds the whole construct together. The sword was made separately and just wedged into his head. The sword has suffered from lack of protection in the time since I originally made this.

Finally, these were posed as a set from the aforementioned video. This picture was taken shortly after these were made so they all look new . The background is a set of Minecraft refrigerator magnets.

Rainbow Loom Ponies

I used skills heretofore unknown to craft figurines out of Rainbow Loom rubber bands. In this case My Little Pony figures.
