Was tasked to create a unique graphic mark for a self-chosen animal. I opted for the Common Octopus, as it has an unusual form and is not depicted realistically in most settings these days, which created an interesting challenge. With emphasis on simplification for this project, the 8 arms and the numerous suction cups needed to be reduced to the lowest threshold of recognition to avoid visual clutter but still read as an octopus.
Once the mark was finalized it then had to be placed in a typographic dominant composition using a phrase created by a peer. For the common octopus the phrase "quick-witted grins on the floor of the sea, an octopus plotting but nobody sees" was crafted.
