We worked alongside Creative Design agency Outpost to design and develop three characters to represent the energy company Simply Warmer. The premise was simple, there were to be two bad boilers, Gilbert and Dexter, representing the unreliable and inefficient boilers of the past and a new shiny boiler, Alvin showcasing the modern, slick and efficient boilers made by the client.

We initially created a series of illustrations featuring the characters and based on their success, our highly skilled production team have brought them to life in two TV advert aired in the UK.

The good boiler - modern, slick and reliable

Gilbert is a bad boiler, he's big, slow and grumpy and he's completely inefficient!

Dexter is a bad boiler too, he's mischievous, naughty, unreliable, expensive and noisy!

As with all our creative work we start with simple sketches which are quickly developed in a number of different design directions. Based on client feedback we are then able to narrow down the design, start adding colour and eventually building the characters in 3D.

Once the client had signed off each of the characters models we were then able to create a series of poses and illustrations that enabled the client to get across the brand message. To date we have created 11 separate illustrations for the client and have been working on an even bigger project with these characters which we will be able to share very shortly. Watch this space!

We rigged all three boiler characters for animation, allowing our fantastic team to bring them to life and give them the character to really deliver the brand message. We also designed and created two new characters, Pig and Duck, who are saved from the mischievous older boilers by Alvin and a well placed magnet and trapdoor.
