In this assignment I was instructed to take a natural image, study it, look for patterns and detail and then use the enhanced image to create two different color contrast, analogous and split-complementary.
Starting Image
First I made the image a high contrast black and white.
Moving on to the analysis, I zoomed in on the flower. Trying to focus on the detail of the center and the pedals.
Zoomed in once more, taking a close look at the veins on the pedals and the darker imperfect spots. Looking where shadows are cast and the wiry detail of the center.
Once I was finished with the analysis I opened the image in Illustrator and used the image trace tool to give me outlines that I would use for my contrast study. This first image was created for analogous harmony, using shades and tones of blue-violet, violet and red-violet I created this image.
This image was created for split-complementary harmony, using shades and tones of red, blue-green and yellow-green.
Liking result of my split-complementary harmony assignment I painted the image using gouache. As my gouache collection consists of black, white and the three primary colors I mixed the colors seen in the painting.
