The Gods War

Designed by Sandy Petersen and based on the mythic cult universe of Glorantha, The Gods War is a fast moving strategy game set in a universe on the brink of disaster. In The Gods War, you take the part of powerful elemental factions, battling to determine the fate of the cosmos.The Gods War has been in development for more than three years. It is highly asymmetric featuring wildly different factions. You’ll fight over territory, perform miracles, and command monsters and gods. You can storm the gates of heaven itself, or watch the world collapse into the Chaos Rift.

I was given the opportunity to design some of the gods and monstrous inhabitants of Glorantha. All these designs have been made into miniatures by the fantastic arts team at Petersen Games.

First to be introduced is the vile Kyger Litor!

Kyger Litor is the ancestress of all the troll races of the world and is almost universally worshiped by them. When the sun was slain she invaded the surface world with her minions, conquered the land, and bore the brunt of the fighting against chaos. The cult is simple and primitive, often savage or brutal in the eyes of humans, but is satisfying to the equally primal trolls.

She is usually shown as a mistress troll, accoutered with crude regalia of power. Her statue can be chewed from any kind of rock, and is always the largest statue in any group.

Some philosophers theorize about gods beyond the gods. Sometimes these theorizations are labeled as powerful impersonal forces, like Time. Sometimes they remain mysterious and unfathomable, such as Arachne Solara. Mystics and philosophers say that the web of Arachne Solara is the binding of the universe — the universal fabric which connects all parts of the world.
