The Greater Third & Distinct Mind
A series of zines were produced as a collective statement of the flexibility of the cognitive mind in the sense that each reader may generate different interpretations based on their own experiences and that no mind is exactly the same.
This exploratory study was initiated by a growing interest of the distinct mind and from the notion of ‘1+1=3’ by Alan Fletcher in ‘The Art of Looking Sideways’. This notion goes beyond literal numbers and was grounded on the generation of a third concept such as an object, space or element greater than the sum of components.
The process of conceptual blending in which something new was generated was the essence of this principle I referred to as the 'greater third' in this study. The generation of something new from combination interested me and the intangible 'greater third' became the core focus of this study after research and experiment lead direction.
