The final product includes two sets of ten icons; one in black and white, and one created to resemble stamps (to suggest a feeling of ‘manufactured’, ‘out for shipping’, ‘produced’, etc.)
The set of icons was then developed to theme a fictitious exhibition for the re-opening of SFMOMA in 2016. I wanted to translate this ‘made and re-made in San Francisco’ aspect from my icons into a re-design for SFMOMA’s website landing page. With the exhibition dubbed “Homemade.”, I ‘stamped’ several of my icons across the page. Any information on the page is kept short and simple to create a sense of anticipation; like something has been shipped and we are awaiting arrival.
In order to promote the exhibition, the icons would be painted onto sidewalks of San Francisco, leading participants throughout the city. Each trail would lead the participant to various artists, designers, and makers, each exhibiting something the produce, be it art, tools, or ideas; anything and everything made in San Francisco.
