Alice: Madness is in the Blood

A university project to produce a promotional piece of illustration for a possible upcoming film or game.
I chose to create a sequel piece to Mcgee's Alice in Wonderland franchise.
The goal with this piece was to create a sense of madness through gothic imagery as well as the associated imagery linked to the world of Alice (i.e cards).
The narrative to this piece is that Alice has grown into a woman and has had a child which inherits the 'madness'. Alice is taken by wonderland and its up to her daughter to pick up the pieces to find her mother.
For 'Alice's' face, I took a photograph of my own face, printed and sketched over the top and scanned the sketch back in and overlay the photo.
The floating gears were created from my own custom brush and repeated throughout the image.
The texture was created through the use of inks on paper, scrunching it and then scoring the surface with scissors and then scanning.
The blood splatter was created through ink on paper and scanned in.
