Watership Down Book Cover - Typography & Page Layout

For this assignment, we were to pick a book of our choosing and design a book cover. I chose Watership Down by Richard Adams (a personal and long time favorite of mine).

Below are some process shots. I created the illustration in Adobe Illustrator then took it over to Indesign for the typography and layout.
This was the base color palette I used for this design. I wanted a red themed scenery to convey war, danger, as well as passion and determination. I wanted a contrasting blue/green (turquoise) color to be used for the rabbits. Not only to create contrast within the design, but to also convey friendship and loyalty.
Here is the final result. I had a lot of fun with this assignment. The title typeface is called Bates Shower by imagex (click here). The author's name is in DIN Condensed and the remaining info is in Arial. The Black Rabbit that is incorporated into the title was pulled from a screenshot of the movie and then vectorized in Illustrator. All other objects/factors (except for the barcode) of the design were created by me for this assignment.
