Clay Modeling and Sculpting
A part of the curriculum ,clay modeling was one of my personal favorites even after being one of the toughest and physically exhausting modules. Clay modeling study spanned over all 3 years of college. The aim was to understand the building of a 3D character, balance, symmetry, how it should appear in different angles if converted to a 2D character as well and important body structure details to make it believable.
Beginning with creating models of existing characters and then applying the process to a self stylized character taught us to observe and apply technique and understand the character structures. Then moving on to study of sculpting realistic human body and different body parts bought emphasis on silhouette, balance, weight, bone structure and basic anatomy. Lastly, we applied all these studies to characters of our own short films to understand the 3D structure before converting it to digital 3D models.
