Theories of Urbanism and Architecture

Project Part 1: Case Study

In this project, we had chosen Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge as our site to study on the 'contact point' we have learnt from Jan Gehl, 'Life Between Buildings'. This is to examine the relationship between patterns of space use, especially outdoor activities and the spatial properties of the physical world in order to understand the varying degrees of contact intensity.
Project Part 2: Comparative Essay

However in the second part of this project, we are to compare the the previous site with the Design Studio V site in a form of essay. I had examined the similarities and dissimilarities based on the patterns of social activities, types of 'contact points' and the varying degrees of contact intensity between the two cities.

It is interesting to understand the cities in a different perspective where cultural differences and the street design have affected the 'contact points' to take place.
Synopsis

In this project, we were given a set of articles to read and write our own reaction paper of synopsis to convey our opinion based on the theories proposed by the writers.
