Unidentified Flying Book
For this project I was given 1500 pages of raw, unformatted text and tasked with designing it within seven weeks. I began by deciding on dimensions, type pairings and developing a grid system for key sections of the text. Next I formatted and cleaned the text up, assigning over 75 levels of hierarchy to different aspects of the text.
In order to convey the concept of government documents and reports I used an off white paper stock combined with a yellow-green that hearkens back to manila folders and yellowed paperbacks. In order to modernize the text and make it more reader-friendly, I treated everything with a delicate hand, standardized table layouts and redesigned all infographics and diagrams.
After a draft print and refinement the book was ready to be sent to the printer. From nothing at all to a beautiful 656 page book in a little over seven weeks, not too shabby huh?
