M1046 Humvee
The Making of a Detailed 3D Model
In this posted project I will show the progression of creating an M1046 Humvee from the ground up. I will update the gallery periodically as I progress with the model building. Stay tuned!
I started with a tire tube, which was surprisingly difficult in Swift 3D. I followed some tutorials and did my own version of it as well to get the inner tube right. Which is funny, because as you'll see in the next image, it didn't really matter.
The 1st solid piece of the new Humvee. I used all the old techniques I've come to love in Swift including a lathe editor to make the wheel, then popped in some bolts, the same ones I used in the Abrams Tank as well. When working on models of similar background its nice to be able to swap parts you already made.
There are several output options using Swift 3D. This image is a vector image which gives the look of a drawn object, whereas the image above this one is a raster image which gives more of a real texture look. I will display both versions of most exports while showing the progression of the build.
The frame was started today (July 30th) and I try not to get too detailed as it will be mostly covered in the final model. Something I also learned while making the Abrams Tank.
The front axle. Probably too detailed for something that won't really get seen in the final image. Sometimes I just get carried away a bit.
Making this all fit together was not easy, hence why its not perfect. But it will mostly be hidden by the end anyway.
Things are starting to shape up nicely now! Can't wait to start working on the body now that the frame is complete on a basic level.
Started on the main body today. Very basic starting, but it should start to come together over the next few updates. I'll have to decide the level of detail I want to for the inside of the Hummer. There's a chance I might even add people, but we'll see. Tinting the windows jet black is always the easy way out of that work.
Filled it in a bit...
Decided to try all the pieces I've made so far together. I knew I spent too much time on the frame. These pieces don't actually line up properly right now, but its hard to tell from this angle. Oh well, looking good so far!
