Composition in Photography
This week in class we recieved an assignment: take two pictures that utilise photography composition rules (symmetry, rule of thirds, etc). The first idea I had that I liked was a contrast between good and bad luck:
I was originally going to use just two dice, but decided to use several as it made the contrast clearer. I also used the rule of thirds with the "6" die as the focus.
I edited it in Photoshop's camera raw editor, and added my signature.
The second idea I had was a color contrast that I saw on a sign. I wasn't happy with it, and after talking about it with my teacher I decided to scrap it in favour of another idea:
A contrast between awake and tired. This simple idea came to me while I was drinking... coffee! (no surprise there). In the image would be two people: one awake and holding a cup of coffee, and tired with his hands in his pockets.
Two of my classmates modeled for this one, I think they did a good job of conveying the feeling of awake/tired.
I used too little lighting, so the picture turned out a bit dark. That was easily fixable thanks to the RAW format. I croppped a bit and purposely made Amir (on the left) brighter than Thomas (on the right) to put more emphasis on him as the focus.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. I think I got a bit better at planning ahead and coming up with ideas.
