Julie Pedro's profile

Cameo and Caricature Illustrations

In our Multimedia Storytelling class, we were tasked with creating a cameo illustration and caricature of our partners using their photographs on Adobe Draw for the iPad. Working with Julie Pedro, I believe I successfully created a cameo and caricature in her likeness.

Programs/materials used:
-Adobe Draw
-iPad + Stylus
-Model, Julie Pedro
-A sense of humour
-Adobe Comp
I began the cameo illustration by taking a photo of Julie in profile against a blank wall, using the iPad.
I created a black oval to work within for the cameo.
Reduced the image to about 50% in opacity.
I sketched out the contours.
The nearly finished product. I did, in fact make a few edits to neaten up and reduce some lines.
For the caricature illustration,I began with a photo of Julie from mid-distance. Julie is a huge fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, so I wanted to portray her doing the famous "Bautista bat flip".
Next, I took a photo of her face closer-up to make her head comically large for the caricature.
Then, I reduced the opacity of both images.
I sketched out her features and then exaggerated them.
I added some more detail to the face to make her look more like a baseball player.
Next, I sketched out her body using the photo reference and then aligned it with the head.
Finally, I drew in a baseball bat for her character to flip.
All done and ready to move into Adobe Comp.
Using Adobe Comp, I aligned both illustrations, and now it is complete!
