Cameo and Caricature

Cameo and Caricature Assignment
Introduction

The objective of this assignment was to create a cameo and caricature of our partner by using the Adobe Draw app as well as transferring the files on Creative Cloud for our partners to access and make minor adjustments to it.

Materials Used

Hardware: I Pad and Adonit drawing pen
Software: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Comp, Creative Cloud
Cameo
The first step was to take a picture of our partner from a side view and use it as a template to create the cameo.
The second step was to outline our partner's body from head to shoulders as it was the appropriate proportion of a cameo.
This was the final result of the cameo. However, I began to have second thoughts about it mainly due to the the body having too many strokes and kind of taking away from the simplicity of a cameo when the viewer is observing it, so I decided to change it up a notch.
The solution was to transfer the cameo from Adobe Draw to Adobe Illustrator. This allowed me to make minor adjustments to the piece I created without having to start over by locking each layer and selecting the one layer that needed adjusting. I carefully removed the body by using the select tool on Illustrator and isolating the head alone, afterwards I proceeded to use the pen tool create clean smooth lines on the body of the cameo and thickening the strokes where I felt was necessary. After making these adjustments and was satisfied by the results, this was the final product.
Caricature
Out the two, I found the Caricature to be very enjoyable as it gave me an opportunity to get creative and make my partner into a character he wished to be. After interviewing my partner, I discovered that he is a huge fan of Pokemon and that he always wanted to become a Pokemon Trainer as a kid. Upon hearing this, I decided to make his dream come true.
To start things off, I wanted to make this caricature very humorous and exciting so I asked my partner to pose in a very funny way and this was the picture that I used as a template for his caricature.
I began by tracing his face however, I exaggerated his head just a bit by adding a hat and extending his hair to give it a 90s cartoon approach to it which turned out great.
The head of the caricature.
After creating the head, came the body. I took the same picture of my partner but shrunk it to half of its regular size to maintain the sole purpose of a caricature. Once the cropping was done for the body, I proceeded to trace his upper body and then create his legs through imagination since a third of his lower body was cut off but nonetheless, it was created. To make things interesting, my partner requested that his caricature should have two Pokeballs and deciding which one to use. The red pokeball represented a beginner trainer where as the purple pokeball represented a master trainer and that the caricature is having a hard time choosing one over the other.

The final image of the caricature.
After completing the two pieces of our partner, the last step was to put the two images together into one canvas (A4 Landscape) on Adobe Comp by aligning them together and putting our name on the bottom right corner of the page in 18pt bold in Sans Serif Font. Once this process was complete, we then had to transfer the file from Adobe Comp to Adobe InDesign and to make sure that the pictures were aligned and that the font was correct, afterwards I converted the image to JPEG format and print it out.
Conclusion
Learning to transfer your files from one program to another made it very accessible for the people you want to share your work with. Drawing with a pen on and I Pad for the first time was very enjoyable. It was a lot of trial and error working with the pen but as soon as I got used to it, it became such a fluid and effective tool when it came to drawing on a tablet. Overall, I am very satisfied with the work that I created and it certainly made my partner happy when I showed the drawings I did of him. It all takes practice when it comes to learning a new skill, all you need is patience and good effort in order to get unleash the inner creativity in you.
