Cameo and Caricature

Character Development and Storytelling: Cameo and Caricature

INTRODUCTION:
The purpose of the assignment was to collaborate with a peer and create a pair of caricatures and a pair of cameos. The caricature was to be cartoon-like and would exaggerate key features in a humorous way. The cameo is a basic line work showing the subjects profile.

MATERIALS:
The drawing was done on an iPad.
Software used: Stylus pen, Adobe Illustrator Draw, Adobe Photoshop

CREATIVE PROCESS:
For the caricature, I thought about how I would represent my subject's (Mathew's) personality in a humours way. I asked him about his hobbies, etc. For the cameo, I tried to take a photo that was at a good angle with many details.

PRODUCTION METHODS/WORKFLOW:
I started off with a close up picture of Mathew's face and one full body pose.
After I finished drawing both images I combined the head shot with the body and adjusted the size until it seemed just right. I then added the background, which is a dance floor and spot light.

CONCLUSION:
This project was fun for me because Ive never used adobe Illustrator draw, or done any drawings on an iPad using a stylus pen. I liked how the digital drawing turned out, and it was interesting to be able to play with all the settings (variating pen, width, etc). If I were to do it again I think I would want to add props to add another element and make it a little bit more exciting to look at.
