The project is a publication response to Ken Garland's 1964 "First Things First" Manifesto in which inspired the dialogue and tone of the text written on these cards. The manifesto was a call for action to the design industry at the time. It comments on the consumer heavy demands of a designer's skills and proposing those skills to be used in more meaningful ways. The dialogue for the publication is supported by the ideas of the 1964 manifesto and my self reflection as a designer and framed around the question: How can we grow as designers? The concept was presented as a 30 piece puzzle containing an alphabetical list of insights which spirals back to the original manifesto. The idea of the puzzle is an invitation for the reader to build the publication themselves so that the content would be digestible, immersive and collaborative much like Ken Garland's game "Connect" which was an educational tool for children to learn roads, rivers and rail-tracks.
