Who is Marilyn Carino?

You may not have heard of Marilyn Carino yet, but if you like your music a little bit experimental, a little bit left-field and a little bit challenging, then her brand of electro music is for you.

Also employing elements of a wide range of other genres including hip-hop and even soul, Marilyn creates a type of music that seems to break down the walls of genres. Whilst you can locate her music as having a distinct 'electro' sound, there are so many other influences in there, it is difficult to pin her down - and this is a good thing. It displays her ambition and desire as a musician to not be restricted by definitive boxes.

After releasing her debut album Little Genius in 2011, Marilyn has returned with the new record, Leaves, Sadness, Science. What can be said about the the album is that it is a well-crafted fusion of moody synths and stark beats, all layered underneath Marilyn's distinctive vocals which are unlike any other. Her voice has been described in the past as 'smoldering' and 'powerful to the point of bringing you to tears', which is easily understood when listening to her music.

Before embarking on a solo career, Marilyn founded the vintage-electronic band Mudville with whom she found great success. Their single 'Wicked' even won best song at the 2008 Independent Music Awards. Aside from this, Carino has also worked with renowned producers Sly and Robbie and she recently contributed to the Words Hurt Collective, which featured Samuel T. Herring of Future Islands.
